Kitchen

This is one photograph from a series that I shot for the Central
Tibetan Secretariat’s Department of Home Affairs. My assignment
was to photograph the living conditions of two of the refugee camps
in the Kulu-Manali area.

Here is a photograph of an elder lady in the kitchen of her home. I
think her place consisted of about two rooms including this one.
Most of the people at this camp lived in similar structures. Most of
the people I saw while photographing here were women, children,
and elderly. I believe that the majority of residents worked as road
laborers and were off at work. Many Tibetan refugees in India still
live in such circumstances.

This photograph was also sent to the International Campaign for
Tibet, in Washington, D.C. and I believe was used at a hearing on
Tibet.
