Conscious Art Exhibit
This was the first full exhibit of Conscious Art, with the manifesto published at the entrance. It was held at the Houston Center for Photography. All pieces above are included in this web gallery except "The Great Eye Am" to the right of St. Peter. It is an altarpiece about omniscience as it relates to intuition and imagination. It is a large box with a photograph facade, and multiple transparent interactive layers inside that the viewer can control. The viewer opens a small triangular "eye" door and peers into the experience.
The illumination was very low, much lower than this photograph indicates. The dim environment drew on the ambiance of old Gothic monasteries, where people lose a sense of the room in the vastness in the unseen walls. The rocks on the ground became more dangerous as patrons moved from piece to piece in the dim light. Tibetan chanting from the Drepung Monestary was playing softly in the background, to help create a ritualistic moment for the audience.
