Mind's Eye
This altarpiece refers to a meditative tradition associated with Zen and many martial arts. It is our own inner mental observer process that can see what is going on in our minds if we allow it to disengage from our own identity, and just be.
This is the eye we bring to bear in the scrutiny of reason. It is the eye that can envision new creative possibilities. It is not the "I" but only a part of the complexity that makes up a human mind and body.
Here, an Aikidoist performs breathing meditation, letting go from identifying with every thought that passes through the mind. Still being there, one can then relax, focus on the immediate, and begin to release to a broader perspective.
